What is substance abuse and how can it affect my business?
Substance abuse is defined by the National Institute of Health as excessive use of a drug in a way that is detrimental to self, society, or both.
This definition can include both legal and/ or illegal substances ranging from morphine and opioids to alcohol or marijuana.
But are products with marijuana legal now?
Currently, marijuana products are legal in the state of Florida for medical use, but not recreational use, and marijuana is also still illegal at the federal level.

This is especially true for anyone holding a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The Department of Transportation (DOT)’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – does not authorize “’medical marijuana’ under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a transportation employee’s positive drug test result.”
The DOT does not allow for a positive marijuana result for any CDL physical exams.
