May 2022 – Current COVID-19 Guidance

It’s May 2022, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have lowered Leon County to an area of low transmission for COVID-19.

What does ‘Low Transmission’ mean?

Low transmission is measured by the number of new hospitalizations due to COVID-19 (currently less than 10.0) and current percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients (currently less than 10%).

Leon County is currently 56.8% vaccinated, according to the Florida Health Department.

Should we still wear masks?

The CDC’s current mask guidance is:

“People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

People should also wear masks on public transportation.

If you are immunocompromised, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask or take other precautions.”

Blue surgical masks

The CDC still recommends vaccination for those who can get vaccinated, and testing to determine if a patient has a current infection.
