November 2022 – Where is COVID and what is happening?

COVID-19 Update: November 2022

In the latest update, released during the last week of October 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has declared Leon County an area of low transmission for COVID-19. The latest report declares that in the entire state of Florida, no county has greater than a medium level of transmission.

In Leon County and areas of low transmission, this means no more than 10 cases per 100,000 people, or a test positivity rate of less than 5%. “Moderate” transmission is 10 to 50 cases per 100,000 people, or a positivity rate between 5% and 8%.

The CDC recommends that all areas of transmission from low to high should:

*Stay up to date on vaccination, including recommended booster doses.

*Maintain ventilation improvements.

*Avoid contact with people who have suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

*Follow recommendations for isolation if you have suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

*Follow the recommendations for what to do if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19.

*If you are at high risk of getting very sick, talk with a healthcare provider about additional prevention actions.

In areas of medium or high transmissions, people should:

*If you are at high risk of getting very sick, wear a high-quality mask or respirator (e.g., N95) when indoors in public

*If you have household or social contact with someone at high risk for getting very sick, consider self-testing to detect infection before contact, and consider wearing a high-quality mask when indoors with them

From the beginning of the pandemic, the best way to determine the risk to a business or team of people is effective COVID-19 testing.
